In drilling operations, formations with microfractures are sensitive to drilling fluid density, which leads to increased well control risks and NPT. Without appropriate preventive and remedial measures, drilling a well through such formations is always challenging. In the May/June 2024 issue of Oilfield Technology, a Vertechs case study titled Optimizing Mud Loss Prevention showcases how Vertechs RWSS Real-time Wellbore Strengthening Solution and REALology Intelligent Drilling Fluids Monitoring System assist engineers in reducing and preventing mud loss.
Before entering formations with microfractures, wellbore strengthening material is usually added to the drilling fluid and maintained at optimal concentration. By using Vertechs High-Pressure Invasion Tester, the invasion performance of drilling fluid can be evaluated in real-time to ensure effective plugging. Additionally, Vertechs has also developed the REALology Intelligent Drilling Fluids Monitoring System, which can monitor and collect key properties such as density, viscosity, and temperature of drilling fluid. Traditional tests are usually performed manually with limited precision, while REALology can monitor parameters continuously, which benefits our operators by achieving high-precision data in real-time.
